With Westchester Interior Designer Sun Lee, 35 Square-Foot Bathroom goes from “Dull” to Beautiful!
While working for the Obama’s White House decorator, interior designer Sun Lee and her husband moved into an old American colonial style house in Westchester in 2012. After five years, their bathroom began leaking, she decided to make her next design project her own bathroom remodel.
Sun’s vision was to create a crisp and luxurious bathroom with contrast in colors and material in their budget. She combined an inexpensive vintage furniture inspired vanity, white and grey marble tiles, and horizontal bead boards to create a space that was fresh, yet serene.
The Greek key mosaic tile frames the floor.
Before: “The original bath felt tired,” Sun recalls, “due to the dull vanity and the laden ceramic tile that covered the walls and the floor.
“I immediately fell in love with Krane Home wallpaper when a good friend introduced me to Sharon Lee's Hand-screened wallpapers. I am obsessed with anything that provokes salty beach memories and that's what I felt when I saw ‘Painted Wave’ paper.” The Hamptons beach photography by Neal Cohen adds additional salty punch to the powder room.
Good design starts with careful planning. Renovating an old house is stressful but it is worth the trouble and every penny. The reward is immense.
“By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room and moving the awkward powder room over to the entry, I was able to gain great amount of real estate in the kitchen.”
The new pair of French doors add ton of natural light into the space and the room feels very spacious.
